In a food processor, process Cheerios™ until they are fine crumbs. In a medium bowl, add crumbs, melted butter, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and parsley and mix until combined.

Casserole Toppings

Slightly crush up some Wheaties, add a little melted butter and sharp cheddar cheese, and your casserole has gone from ordinary to extraordinary! This topping is super versatile and can be used for potato, chicken or veggie casseroles.

2 cups Wheaties cereal, slightly crushed
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Grind up some Cheerios in a food processor to a fine crumb consistency. Add some melted butter, garlic, and Parmesan and you have a delectable crumb topping that… smells like popcorn when you bake it? This one can be used to top saucy chicken casseroles.

2 cups Cheerios cereal, finely crushed
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes

This topping is great for breakfast casseroles. Take your egg casseroles up a notch with some crispy bacon, cheese, and Wheat Chex cereal for some added fiber. It’s kind of like eating your eggs and cereal all at one time.

2 cups cups Corn Chex or Wheat Chex cereal, whole
1/2 cup cooked and crumbled bacon
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Not all casseroles have to be savory. Fiber One Caramel Delight cereal is a treat in itself … but adding some coconut, butter, and chopped pecans to it as a topping makes any dessert casserole out of this world. The coconut gets toasted to perfection in the oven. Watch out because I could definitely just scrape this off the top and eat it with a spoon. This topping is great for dessert, fruit, squash, or sweet potato casseroles.

1 cup Fiber One Caramel Delight cereal, whole
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 cup shredded coconut
1/2 chopped pecans

Swiss cheese pairs perfectly with veggies, so this topping is a perfect compliment to green bean or broccoli casseroles. A little garlic and Swiss cheese is tossed together with crushed Total cereal and sprinkled on top for a cheesy crunch.

2 cups Total cereal, slightly crushed
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Crispy Bacon Garlic Breadcrumb Topping

Crispy Bacon Garlic Breadcrumb Topping finishes off Macaroni and Cheese and makes a terrific topping for Green Bean Casseroles.

Crispy Bacon Garlic Breadcrumb Topping

The beauty of this Crispy Bacon Garlic Breadcrumb Topping is that you can prepare it while your Pressure Cooker Macaroni and Cheese is cooking and then just put it on top when you are ready to serve.

This topping will add so much yummy flavor to all kinds of dishes, not just Macaroni and Cheese. Potato skins, various soup, fish, and the list goes on. You can top any pasta dish with the Crispy Topping. How about topping that boring Green Bean Casserole to change it up?

Cast of Ingredients for Crispy Bacon Garlic Breadcrumb Topping

If you don’t have Panko, just use regular breadcrumbs. I love Asiago in this topping, but Parmesan is a good choice too.

If using Cast Iron Skillet or Stainless Steel frying pan, always start with a hot pan and then add your fat.

Grease the Cast Iron Skillet with Bacon Grease

Since bacon is full of fat, I like to cut off a piece and twirl it around my Cast Iron Skillet.

This will make the skillet non stick and will also season the Cast Iron Skillet further.

Add the rough chopped bacon and cook until crisp. After you have fried the bacon, drain off most of the grease and add the garlic and cook another minute. If you skillet gets too dry, add back in bacon grease or butter, whichever you prefer.

Dump in the Panko (or bread crumbs) and cook until they start to brown. You will probably need some more grease at this point.

I use a LamsonSharp Chef’s Slotted Turner with a natural wood handle. I like to buy the best kitchen tools so that they last longer and work without frustration. Always buy the best that you can afford, never break the bank.

Add in the pepper, if using and grated Asiago cheese and just cook another minute and remove from heat.

You can flavor up so many dishes with this topping…..

Pressure Cooker Macaroni and Cheese with Crispy Bacon Topping

Baked Halibut With Parmesan Crumb Topping

Halibut is a firm white fish that's easy to cook, and this crumb-topped halibut is a fast and simple way to prepare this mild, versatile fish. The tasty, buttery crumb topping, which is made from scratch for this recipe, gives the halibut nice flavor and texture. The topping also helps to keep the fish moist as it bakes quickly at high heat in the oven.

Choose Pacific or Alaskan halibut fillets or steaks for this recipe. You might find wild Atlantic halibut for a while, it was not a sustainable choice because it was in danger of being overfished, but its populations are being more sustainably managed to help alleviate those earlier problems. Farmed Atlantic halibut can be used. Some other large flatfishes might be labeled "halibut" as well. Some possible substitutions for the more expensive and harder to find halibut include turbot, haddock, cod, and striped bass. (This Parmesan crust would be good with chicken breasts, too.)

Serve these delicious halibut fillets with rice, roasted potatoes, or boiled new potatoes along with a tossed green salad and steamed vegetables. It will go with just about any vegetable you pair it with.

Mac and Cheese – in broccoli form!

If you love my Baked Mac and Cheese, then you’re going to love this Broccoli Casserole. Because that’s basically what this recipe is. Mac and Cheese – minus the Mac, plus broccoli.

The same cheesy sauce. And that same gorgeous buttery, crunchy breadcrumb topping. In my world, Broccoli Casserole doesn’t happen without a crunchy topping!

Mac n Cheese with Parmesan Crumb Topping

As fall approaches, I can’t help but settle into some of my favorite comfort foods. One-pot stews, creamy soups, and cheesy bowls of classic mac n cheese are just a few of my go-to indulgences.

As a child, Mom often made spaghetti with bolognese sauce she wasn’t a fan of mac n cheese. On the occasional night where it was just my older sister and I, we’d excitedly whip out a box of store-bought Macaroni and Cheese from the pantry and call it dinner.

This day and age, I prefer my mac n cheese made from scratch, rather than a box. This doesn’t mean the meal is any harder to make than it used to be, but it definitely does mean I can customize it each time to my own preference.

For example, I’ve made this mac n cheese with gruyere cheese and truffle oil before when I’ve felt a little fancy. Most of the time, I make this mac n cheese the old-fashioned way, with some quality cheddar cheese.

The parmesan crumb topping is one of my favorite parts about this mac n cheese because it provides a pleasant contrast in texture.

Plus, the topping tastes delicious after the toasted bread crumbs are mixed with some melted butter and parmesan. How can anyone go wrong there?

Even Mom approves of this mac n cheese, which says a lot! As the weather begins to cool down, I look forward to putting this meal on the dinner menu more and more.

Can I Freeze the Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta

Yes you can freeze your casserole in a pan or zip lock bags. Just make sure to mark them with what is inside, the date you froze it and even how to reheat it so you wont have to guess later.

Remove the casserole from the freezer and place into the refrigerator about 24 hours before cooking. Preheat oven and bake casserole loosely covered with foil as directed.

Casserole toppings for toasty bread crumb fiends

Buttered breadcrumbs may be my personal favorite topping on my casseroles. That little bit of crunch, the gentle flavor, the way they enhance but don&apost overwhelm the dish, just perfection. But even here there is some room to experiment a little bit. Adding grated hard cheeses like Parmesan or Pecorino to bread crumb toppings can also be a great flavor addition that still keeps that crispy topping. Seasonings or seasoning blends can also add some terrific flavor to bread crumbs: Try BBQ rubs spice blends like garam masala, ras el hanoot, vadouvan herby additions like za&aposatar or herbes de Provence. Additions like almond or hazelnut meal can bring in nutty flavor without interfering with the crumb texture. Butter is great for making that crumb topping but think about bringing in other flavors like bacon fat, coconut oil, or flavored oils like garlic or lemon to add a hint of flavor that is an unexpected treat.
